Originally a religious day, it has been modernized into a romantic day for lovers, featuring chocolates, flowers and other acts of love. Although not an official holiday, you can always take the day off to spend it with your significant other.
A little history
Although it wasn’t originally a day as romantic as it is portrayed now, over time, the meaning of Valentines changed. In the late 15th Century, the word Valentine was being used to describe a lover in poems and songs of the day, and by the 19th century, Valentines’ day cards were being mass produced, used by lovers everywhere.
Galentine’s day
A little modern twist to the original Valentine’s day, popularized by Amy Poehler’s character Leslie Knope on Parks and Recreation, it is celebrated on February 13th. Don’t have a lover? That’s fine, celebrate Galentine’s day with friends instead, hang out, or send presents to show your appreciation.
Have fun with it
Do what you want to do, you can throw away the traditions and come up with activities of your own. Despite being portrayed as a day for lovers, you can show some appreciation to yourself and family. Watch movies, bake cookies, have a nice dinner, do some crafts.
